The Teeny Star Cabin

This tiny cabin is the heart of the operation and a solid all-season retreat. It’s a cozy space featuring a stargazing skylight and a tiny wood-burning stove (with tiny firewood). Inside? It's pretty much just a bed, a place to sit, a table, a loft, and plenty of charm. That's about it.

True to form, it was built using 80% reclaimed materials. We’re talking donated windows, a neighbor's old deck, and siding from my brother's fence. Even the screen door is handmade using wood salvaged from my parents' house. We assembled, sanded, and painted it all ourselves to serve as our launching pad into land life.

Our Story

Welcome to Camp Blue Ground. Honestly, this whole thing started because we just wanted a quiet piece of dirt in the Kansas woods, but it quickly turned into a 46-acre obsession. We aren't a fancy corporate resort with manicured lawns; we just believe the best things in life are built by hand, usually out of reclaimed materials. From the solar setup to the trails we carved out ourselves, everything here was made with a lot of sweat and a genuine love for this forest.

Our goal isn't to sell you a "curated experience," it's just to give you a place to actually unplug. Whether you’re crashing in the Teeny Cabin, warming up by the wood stove, or wandering the creek bed, the vibe here is simple: slow down. We’ve poured a lot of work into this place so you can come out here and do absolutely nothing. We’re proud of what we’ve built, and we’re pretty stoked to share it with you.

Land History

Before us, this place had a whole other life. It started on paper with Frank J. Miller from Ohio back in 1870. For over a century, it was a working farm, but in 1979, the tractors stopped running. The land sat quiet for 26 years, and nature basically took the keys back, turning old fields into the thick woods you see now.

We rolled in on July 1, 2017. We cut down the first tree pretty quickly—just to clear a spot to stand, the spot you see today. We see ourselves as the latest caretakers of this land, here to look after it, wildness and make it a place you can camp, and we can build our own home.

As for the ares, a settler named John Quincy Adams (nope, not the President) named it. He saw a hill, thought it looked blue in the haze, and called it "Blue Mound." Simple enough. We respect the history here, from the farmers who broke the ground to the forest that took it back. We’re just happy to be writing the next chapter.

Know This...

Think of this as your own private piece of the wild. It’s like the best backyard hangout you’ve ever had, but set in a 46-acre forest with better scenery and zero neighbors. We’ve built a comfortable, unique escape for people who love the outdoors, but we’re a world away from a resort. Expect real nature—bugs, starry nights, and the sound of coyotes. If your idea of a good time involves a crackling fire, good company, and a bit of dirt on your boots, you’re in the right place. We cover all the gritty details in the booking wizard to make sure we’re the right fit for your adventure.
